Overview
DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a neuropeptide first isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood in 1977. It is a nonapeptide (9 amino acids) that modulates sleep architecture, specifically promoting delta (slow-wave) sleep. Beyond sleep, DSIP has demonstrated stress-protective, antioxidant, and neuroendocrine-modulating properties in preclinical and early clinical research.
Mechanism of Action
DSIP modulates GABAergic neurotransmission in the thalamus and cortex, promoting the transition to slow-wave (delta) sleep. It also reduces corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) secretion and normalizes cortisol rhythms, providing stress-protective effects.
