Editorial Methodology

How Compound Review evaluates research peptides, grades evidence quality, and maintains editorial independence.

Our Mission

Compound Review is an independent reference guide for researchers, biohackers, and healthcare professionals who need accurate, mechanism-level information about research peptides. Our goal is to provide the most technically rigorous, evidence-graded peptide reference available on the open web — written at the level of a medical journal, not a supplement blog.

Every compound profile, comparison guide, and conditions page on this site is written by researchers with backgrounds in biochemistry, pharmacology, or clinical medicine. All content is reviewed against primary literature before publication and updated when new data emerges.

Evidence Grading System

We rate the evidence quality for every compound and claim using a five-tier hierarchy based on study design and replication. This rating appears prominently in every compound profile and comparison guide.

Tier 1

Human RCT

Randomized controlled trials in humans. Highest evidence quality. Rare for research peptides — most are still in preclinical stages.

Tier 2

Human Cohort / Phase 1–2 Trial

Non-randomized human studies, Phase 1/2 trials, or observational cohort data. Strong signal but lower causal certainty than RCT.

Tier 3

Animal Model (In Vivo)

Rodent or other animal model studies. Extensive preclinical data exists for most peptides at this tier. Mechanism is well-established but human translation is uncertain.

Tier 4

In Vitro (Cell Culture)

Cell culture or isolated tissue studies. Useful for mechanism elucidation but does not establish in vivo efficacy.

Tier 5

Theoretical / Expert Opinion

Mechanistic extrapolation, expert opinion, or anecdotal reports. Used only to explain plausible mechanisms when direct evidence is absent.

Source Standards

All factual claims in compound profiles and comparison guides are sourced from peer-reviewed literature. We use the following source hierarchy:

Source TypeUsed ForAccepted

ClinicalTrials.govTrial status, phase, enrollmentYes — primary source
FDA / EMA databasesRegulatory status, approval historyYes — primary source
Preprints (bioRxiv, medRxiv)Emerging mechanisms onlyWith explicit caveat

Affiliate Disclosure

Compound Review earns affiliate commissions on qualifying purchases through Purgo Labs. This relationship is disclosed on every page that contains affiliate links. Affiliate relationships do not influence compound rankings, evidence ratings, or editorial content.

No Sponsored Rankings

Compound rankings in conditions guides and comparison pages are determined solely by evidence quality and mechanism relevance. No vendor pays for placement, ranking position, or editorial coverage.

No Paid Reviews

Compound Review does not accept payment for compound profiles, comparison guides, or conditions pages. All content is produced independently by our editorial team.

Vendor Independence

Our affiliate partner (Purgo Labs) has no editorial input into compound profiles, evidence ratings, or comparison guides. Negative findings, safety concerns, and evidence limitations are reported regardless of commercial relationships.
