Melanotan II (MT-II) is a synthetic analogue of alpha-MSH. It is not approved by any regulatory agency, and health authorities including the FDA, EMA, and TGA have issued warnings about cardiovascular effects, severe nausea, and changes to moles/nevi that may indicate melanoma risk. Research use only. Research focuses on skin pigmentation and sexual function (via MC4R activation).
Standard Research Dosage
Tanning/pigmentation research: 0.5–1 mg subcutaneously, 3–5x per week. Sexual function research: 0.025 mg/kg body weight. Starting doses should be low (0.25 mg) to assess tolerability before escalation.
Receptor Targets
MT-II activates MC1R (pigmentation), MC3R (energy homeostasis), MC4R (sexual function, appetite), and MC5R (exocrine gland function). The broad receptor profile accounts for both desired effects and side effects.
Safety and Regulatory Warnings
FDA, EMA, and TGA have issued warnings about Melanotan II. Reported adverse effects include severe nausea, cardiovascular effects (blood pressure changes, tachycardia), and changes to moles/nevi with potential melanoma risk. MT-II is not approved for human use anywhere in the world. These risks are not dose-dependent in all cases.
